Where UTRGV's clinical rules actually live

The 2026-27 graduate catalog sets the programs, the credit hours and the clinical hours of the three FNP specialty courses. The day-to-day rules, from who may precept to how hours are logged and checked, are spelled out in UTRGV's public course syllabi, which the School of Nursing posts for each course and term. Older detail comes from the 2023-24 Graduate Nursing Student Guide and a PMHNP question-and-answer page, both now removed from the live site and read here from archived copies.

Some things never appear in public: the approved preceptor list itself, the preceptor orientation packet and the forms kept inside Brightspace. Where that matters, a guide says so and points you to your course coordinator or clinical faculty.

Questions UTRGV students ask

Does UTRGV publish a graduate clinical handbook?

Not on the live site today. The 2023-24 Graduate Nursing Student Guide was removed and survives only as an archived copy, so the current detail comes from each course's syllabus. These guides mark which source says what.

Which tracking system does UTRGV use for clinical hours?

Typhon. FNP students buy access once for the whole MSN, and PMHNP students log their hours there too. The Typhon guide covers how it is used.

Are these official UTRGV pages?

No. They are written by our placement desk from UTRGV's public catalog, course syllabi and School of Nursing pages, checked in September 2026, and each one lists its sources.

Who approves a clinical site at UTRGV?

UTRGV faculty. The FNP course coordinator approves sites for NURS 6347, and PMHNP clinical faculty clear the preceptorship before any hours count. The who does what guide sorts out the roles.
