What to include in your request

A few details let us plan a UTRGV search from the first reply:

Your program: MSN-FNP, post-master's FNP certificate, post-master's PMHNP certificate, DNP, or BSN and RN to BSN.
The course by number, such as NURS 6612 or NURS 6620, and the term it starts.
Your city and state. PMHNP certificate students: your state of residence, where your hours will take place.
Hours finished and hours still needed, if the course is already underway.
Any preceptor or practice you have contacted, and whether it appears on UTRGV's approved list in Brightspace.
How far you can drive, and which weekdays stay open around your Edinburg classes.

If your course starts soon

Set the Clinical start box to the choice for a course already running, or the one for a course within three months, and add your first clinic date and any deadline from your course coordinator to the message. Short timelines lean on practices already affiliated with UTRGV, because a new agreement can take 30 to 90 days, so say whether a site you know is on the approved list.

Preceptors and clinics

Clinicians who would like to host a UTRGV student send the same request. In the Program box, pick the preceptor option, add your city, and put your specialty, credentials and possible clinic days in the message. We then suggest students whose course suits your patients: family practice NPs, PAs and physicians for the FNP courses, board-certified psychiatrists and PMHNPs for the certificate. Practice managers who could host UTRGV students across several terms are welcome to say so; a practice new to UTRGV signs an affiliation agreement before its first student starts.

Other ways to reach the placement desk

Prefer a conversation? The chat on every page connects you with a placement coordinator, and the text and WhatsApp buttons reach the same desk. However you write, your details join one record, so you only explain your course once. A request started in the chat can be finished there.

Questions UTRGV students ask

Can I send a request before UTRGV admits me?

Yes. Planning ahead suits a campus-based FNP program that starts each fall, or a PMHNP certificate that starts in Summer I with clinical hours from the fall. Choose "More than 6 months away" as your start timing and give your expected start, and we map out which courses need preceptors and when.

Will you contact UTRGV for me?

Your submissions to UTRGV come from you, through the channels your course sets: the Clinical Request Form, Typhon and your course faculty. We prepare what you submit and stay in touch with the preceptor and the site's contact. Questions about approval, clearance and grades go to your course coordinator or clinical faculty.

What do preceptors learn about me?

What they need to consider you: your program, course, hours, dates and general location. A prospective preceptor or site sees those details only once you want us to arrange your placement, and the privacy policy explains how that sharing works. Share only what your placement needs.

Can you find a second preceptor if I already have one?

Certainly. Tell us the course and what is already in place: a second nurse practitioner at a different site for NURS 6347, a second 7-week rotation in NURS 6612 or NURS 6613, or a replacement for a preceptor who has stepped back. The search plans around the preceptor you already have.
