UTRGV clinicals across Texas, one region at a time
Most UTRGV nurse practitioner students live in the Rio Grande Valley, where the big hospital operators say little about outside NP students and community clinics carry much of the primary care load. What each Texas guide covers
The guides are drawn on Texas's councils of government, with the Valley split county by county because that is where most UTRGV students look. Each one lists its counties, towns and population and how far the region sits from Edinburg, then names the hospitals and health systems under their current names and says what each one's own pages tell an outside NP student. After that come the federally funded health centers and HRSA shortage designations, and a closing section lines the region up against UTRGV's FNP and PMHNP courses.

Questions UTRGV students ask
Do UTRGV FNP clinicals have to be in the Valley?
UTRGV publishes no such rule. FNP students hold a Texas RN license and attend class in Edinburg, so most train within reach of campus, but sites elsewhere in Texas can work if UTRGV approves them.
Which Valley hospitals publish a process for NP students?
Few do. DHR Health, Valley Baptist and Driscoll's Edinburg children's hospital publish student information; the other Valley hospitals' sites were silent on NP students when checked. Each Valley guide sets out what its hospitals say.
Are rural counties covered?
Yes. Starr County, Willacy, the Middle Rio Grande and the far west all have guides, with their HRSA shortage labels and the community health center sites that often suit a rural primary care rotation.
What about PMHNP certificate students outside Texas?
The certificate places clinicals in your home state. The out-of-state guide covers UTRGV's state list and what home-state boards expect.
