What Typhon is for at UTRGV

UTRGV's FNP syllabi describe Typhon as the MSN program's student clinical tracking system, kept for accreditation and for progression through the program. Who pays is spelled out in the Fall 2025 NURS 6612 syllabus: "Each student will be required to purchase access to this database." The purchase is made once and covers the whole MSN program, so you buy it when your first clinical course asks and keep using it through NURS 6613.

The public syllabi do not print the price, so ask your course coordinator if you need it before the term starts. PMHNP students use Typhon as well; UTRGV's archived PMHNP question-and-answer page told them they would use the system to record their clinical work.

Typhon holds your hours and your patient encounters. It is not where UTRGV tracks your background check, immunizations or insurance, which the compliance checklist covers.

Preceptor data sheets for a new preceptor

If your preceptor is not already on UTRGV's approved list, UTRGV needs their details before you can count hours with them. The Spring 2026 NURS 6613 forms list gathers these under a heading for new affiliations and preceptors: three Typhon data sheets, one each for a nurse practitioner, a physician assistant and a physician, plus the Clinical Request Form sent through DocuSign. The sheets themselves live in the course's forms area and are not public.

1. Check the approved list firstA preceptor at a site on UTRGV's approved list already has an affiliation behind them; the course's own preceptor agreement still applies.
2. Match the data sheet to the professionNP, PA or physician: each has its own Typhon sheet. Most FNP courses accept all three, but NURS 6347 calls for master's-prepared NPs.
3. Send the Clinical Request Form for a new siteUTRGV uses it to set up an affiliation agreement; allow 30 to 90 days.
4. Wait for approval, then logHours count from the point UTRGV approves the site and preceptor for your course, never before.

PMHNP students upload the signed preceptor data sheet, once every party has signed, as part of week-one paperwork in NURS 6476. In NURS 8512, DNP students file a data sheet for a physician and/or DNP-prepared APRN preceptor, though UTRGV leaves unsaid which system receives it.

Typhon for PMHNP students

PMHNP clinical hours begin in the fall, in NURS 6475 and NURS 6476, and every student works with an assigned clinical faculty member inside a clinical group that stays together through the program. Week one of NURS 6476 is paperwork: open Typhon, upload the signed forms, and wait. The syllabus warns that clinical cannot start until your clinical faculty member gives clearance, and NURS 6620 repeats the step in spring.

Two PMHNP numbers make careful logging worth the effort. UTRGV's figures on telepsychiatry disagree, since the archived answers allowed 75 of the 520 hours while the Spring 2026 NURS 6620 syllabus allows 220, so record which hours were telehealth and which were in person; the telepsychiatry page explains the conflict. The same archived page suggested about 120 hours with children and adolescents, which is simple to track if you tag each encounter by age.

When your hours are done, you start the verification: your preceptor completes the Letter Verification of Clinical Clock Hours, which the 2023-24 guide placed in the PMHNP toolbox in the learning system.
